You can adjust your saddle pad with fillings to make it perfect for your horses’s back. Our Barefoot saddle pads come with these fillings:
- The “Physio” includes rubber and PU-foam filling
- The “Special” includes PU-foam fillings.
If you need additional saddle pad fillings, you can buy them here. They are easily trimmed using a sharp pair of scissors, except for the thick “heavy duty” fillings.
Polyurethane Foam: Soft and very adaptable. Great for levelling peak pressure and any unevenness along the horse’s back. Thickness: 15 mm.
Memory Foam: Our recommendation for difficult saddle positions and riders spending long periods in the saddle – even suitable for heavy riders or sensitive saddle positions. Extremely shock-absorbing, pressure distributing and also pliable. Excellent to level any irregularities. Memory foam is long lasting – the material ideally moulds to the rider and horse in use but returns to its original shape when pressure is removed. (Also used in medicine, e.g. for bedridden patients.) Thickness : 20 mm.
Rubber: Quite firm, yields just slightly and reduces bumps to greatest degree Use it to change the position of the saddle, i.e. lift it either in the front or rear so it sits level on the horse. In case of very broad shoulders or prominent withers you should use additional padding in the rear part of the pad to keep the saddle in place. If your horse is croup high, place additional padding in the front. Thickness: 12 mm
Heavy Duty: Developed for the extreme. They are not only shock absorbent but also distribute weight evenly through a polyurethane plate inserted into the cellular rubber. The edges of the inserts are softly rounded and tapered to ensure no developing pressure ridges even on long rides. These inserts are recommended for long distance riders and also for pressure sensitive horses who have previously suffered from saddle pressure sores. These inserts cannot be trimmed due to the inlaying plate therefore we continue to recommend the foam, rubber or memory inserts to fine tune saddle fitting. Thickness: 20 mm
The “heavy duty” fillings do not fit in “Barrydale’s” saddle pads. All fillings are sold in pairs.
